the history of annodalleb

annodalleb is the culmination of almost 20 years of my harsher sonic experiments.

this page is intended to document what is left of that journey.

much of this content was pulled from my remaining cassettes.

given this, the recordings range from horrid to better than i expected

i make no warranty regarding my singing attempts or mixes, but will be updating songs over time if better versions are found

projects and songs appear in order... to the best of my memory

prophei | 1991

this track was based on a song i did a few years earlier with my friend Brian

i recorded this take during my early experiments in the commercial music room in high school

leiden

convultion | 1993

credits: prophei | aaron martin

convultion was the first name given to a project that started with my friend aaron martin after leaving high school

some of these tracks are early versions of tracks that show up later under our more known band name belladonna

the subject matter in these tracks is a mix of anti-government concepts wrapped in various religious musings

this is the beginning of the direct lineage to annodalleb

new government

blitzkrieg

interkill

DMT (original)

requiem (original

prophei | 1994?

credits: prophei

this track was a random thing that happened in the midst of my less aggressive work during that time

it seems to have happened sometime either right before or after the belladonna demo 1994

i "think" it was before, so here it is

nAilz

belladonna | demo 1994

credits: prophei | aaron martin

this demo was the first real attempt to put together a coherent body of music following the early convultion demos

the general quality of the mix and arrangements definitely improved here, aided by more gear, practice and much better green

bleeding on the inside

introspect

dmt

requiem

noize whore

steel

belladonna | demo 1995

credits: prophei | aaron martin

this was unfortunately to be the final body of music written with aaron martin

it was truly our highpoint in concept and execution, and was likely the reason why the subsequent annodalleb project ever came to exist

the soul

the body

innerspace

the great deceit

downpour

the following two tracks were part of the sessions for the demo, but never made it into the final line-up

the mind

blitzkrieg 95 (no vox were ever completed)

anno dalleb | 1995

credits: prophei | schlaut

during the recording of the 95 belladonna demo, aaron and i spent many hours with our mutual friend schlaut

in the midst of many a smokey haze, it became clear that we were destined to work together on a music project

the idea was for schlaut to eventually join belladonna for the next demo, but to kick-start the process we decided to do a side project

we thought we were really inventive by reversing the band name :)

we had no idea how the course of everything that came after would change

anything that moves

sleep

temple door

belladonna / anno dalleb / prophei | 1995

credits: prophei | schlaut

following the first anno dalleb project, schlaut and i spent many hours together, doing acid, playing music

it was becoming increasingly difficult for us to get aaron to commit to a starting point for the 3rd belladonna demo

we decided to go ahead and write a new belladonna song that was dedicated to our LSD cult, and our general sense of silliness

the song was released as belladonna, written by anno dalleb and remixed by me

we had no idea at the time that it would be the last song to ever carry the belladonna name

psychedelik youth

psychedelic youth (remix)

annodalleb | 1995 - 1997

credits: prophei | schlaut | cyrus rex

around the time that schlaut and i were doing our projects and getting ready for the coming of the awaited new belladonna demo, we met cyrus rex

rexi had heard a belladonna demo, and shortly after meeting me, offered to let us use his gear to record the next demo

i was blown away by the generosity of his gesture, and was subsequently blown away by the addition of a pro tools system, studio vision pro, k2500 and nord lead

as time for the demo came, it became clear that long simmering personal issues between aaron and i were about to explode

as much as i was to blame for a lot of it, it was a painful split of an important friendship... and one that inspired a lot of the lyrics that followed

with the departure of aaron, schlaut and i decided to continue as annodalleb, cyrus offering to help with some of the sample work

belladonna was dead. annodalleb was truly born.

1995

the following two songs shared the honor of being the first annodalleb track

the first of the two only exists on a single cassette tape i found, and was almost completely forgotten about, at least by me

i would assume that a technical glitch or other event is why we suddenly stopped working on this track

the second, called "daytes" is what ended up being the "official" first track, though another technical glitch left us with only the original DAT recording

if you pay attention, you will hear that they were both written using the same sample set

lost song one

daytes

1995 / 1996

the next two songs were were to be the last written in my family home in dana point

during this time period, we all moved in together in a house in mission viejo, a place where much craziness ensued

it was during this period that rexi became an "official" member of annodalleb, something kind of funny, as he was working on it form the start anyways

we seemed overly fascinated by these designations, or maybe it was just me that was fascinated by them (entirely possible)

downtrodden

hrt machine

1996 / 1997

after moving to mission viejo, we embarked on some of our most ambitious intoxicated activities, luckily, some of them were musical

this period really defines what was annodalleb was for a long time, and was our most prolific period

it was largely this material that filled our later brief period of playing live

it was also this material that made up much of what gave us exposure on mp3.com

this was also the last material that was written with my brother, schlaut

turmoil

paradigm loss

dark places

consume

1997-1999

as sometimes happens when guys are living together, writing music together... and doing ridiculous amounts of psychedelics together, tensions started to grow

for reasons i can't remember, or gladly forgot, schlaut and i started to have difficulty seeing eye to eye

ultimately, things reached the boiling point, and schlaut left the band (there remain questions as to whether he was pushed out or left, something that will likely never be clarified to the satisfaction of all parties)

this was going to be the last change in the annodalleb line-up until 2008, and produced one of our most remembered songs

acropolis fallen and still were recorded in the "vault" at mediashift interctive

* the missing song will be added as soon as i find it

the fog

the fog | live on kuci (this performance includes dAv, a regular part of the annodalleb live line-up)

acropolis fallen

2000-2004

this was a relatively quiet period that defined what annodalleb was to become, less of an active band and more of an ongoing project

rexi moved to santa monica, and my work with him occured during the period where i lived with him there

during this time, many ideas were messed with, but few completed

the highlights of the period were the completion of abuse directive (now called directive), and the writing of distasteful marmalade (ultimately called distaste)

also of note was the track "war", written a few days after the sept. 11th attack in nyc

directive

distaste

war

2005-2006

this period started slow, with only one track, called "evil fuck love" completed at rexi's parents house in newport beach one night

not much else happened for a year unti we got the idea to do a concept album based on the kabbalistic tree of life diagram, something i was studying at the time

an album was never to be, but our only real release was... the remix EP titled: dAATh

we took a handful of new songs, and then asked our favorite artists to remix them

now out of print, here they are for your enjoyment... (or be a sport and buy them on iTunes)

dAATh - 8fm Liar Mix

EevIlFl - Digitalis Evil Breaks Mix

dAATh

EevIlFl - T.D.I. Remix

War - Hallucinogen Remix

dAATh - ManMadeMan New Creation

annodalleb | 2008-present

at the end of some years of relative inactivity, i decided to truly "re-form" annodalleb

i felt it was time to start fresh with some new blood, and as a result have been working with friend's shAmii and justin

the writing is mostly done, though the production is still in process... and will be made available when ready

so far we have 8+ new tracks, so there is much ahead

we are looking to be ready for the world in spring 2010... but will it be ready for us?

annodalleb is reborn.
